About the Artwork

Print & Object is excited to announce the release of a new series of sculptural works, Another Sky, by interdisciplinary artist [jef]Frey Michael Austin.

Austin’s work thoughtfully pushes against the Greek adage, “Change is the only constant in life.” Harnessing some of the most ephemeral moments of change in daily life; a passing cloud, steam on a bathroom mirror, the evening sunset, a spilled drink on the kitchen table, into meditative states of suspension. By pausing change, Austin gifts us time to hold on a little longer, stand present in our reflection, and immerse ourselves in the beauty of fleeting impressions. The romance of these small moments and subtle gestures unfold and invite us into a surreal space, a queer space, where the “rules” of life melt away and sunsets last forever.

Austin’s studio practice is grounded in a poetic playfulness that engages with language, constructs, and the human condition and reshapes them into odes of the imagination. For their series with Print and Object, the sky motif originated during the early period of the COVID lockdown. At a time imbued with longing, containment, and much political upending, welcoming the sky into their studio became a gesture filled with hope, desire, and faith in the regenerative power of passing time.

A cup of sky spilling across the table, drops of condensation captured mid-evaporation, and the blush of a twilight that never dims, Austin’s series of new works softens absolutes and invites curious wonderment into the day-to-day. Print & Object is honored to present Another Sky on our platform.
