About The Artist

Marina Kozak, a queer Italian - American multidisciplinary artist and designer based in Chicago, has worked across a variety of 2D and 3D mediums throughout her career. She currently serves as the Design Director for the music journalism website Pitchfork and showcases her personal work through the design studio In Bocca Al Lupo.

Italians are known for many things, but one of their lesser-known traits is their strong sense of superstition. This is evident in the ubiquity of gold charms depicting the Mano Cornuto, the Italian horn, and the lesser-known lucky number 13. All of these are worn to ward off the "malocchio" or the evil eye. Much of my work delves into mysticism and the creation of false artifacts. Thus, I aimed to design a jacket imbued with the good omens of Italian folklore. This piece is not only functional and wearable but also allows its bearer to carry luck with them throughout the day.
