About the Artwork

Print and Object is honored to announce the release of vibrant works on paper and canvas paintings by mixed media artist Chad Kouri.

Steeped in a creative practice that investigates the healing powers of sound, color and abstraction, Kouri takes a rhythmic approach to life, moving with curiosity and potential. In riffing off each bike ride to the studio, laundry day, or bus ride home, his practice collects the seemingly mundane into a creative wellspring to pull from. From there, his song begins, as Kouri plays, repeats, cuts, harmonizes, and fuses his mixed media into fresh compositions that can be deconstructed and reformed many times over.

This release with P&O includes nine works on paper from Kouri’s Shape & Color Studies series. Each work is a track within the larger artistic discography, a visual record of Kouri’s various explorations in juxtaposing color, merging forms, and vibrating compositional tension.

Kouri’s three canvas works balance additive gestures and reductive acts. Crisp hard edge shapes layer with transparent wisps of painted strokes that hold a softness, a touch of vulnerability. The vibrant play with forms, tone, and texture sparks a creative melody that plays on repeat.

Print and Object is excited to present this selection of works on our platform.

About the Artist

Chad Kouri is a Chicago-based working artist, musician, and storyteller interested in the healing powers of color, sound, and abstraction. His mixed-race identity is mirrored by his multidisciplinary studio practice with interests focusing broadly on visual communication, improvisation, radical joy, social justice and community empowerment, and Chicago's monumental history of resistance music and the avant-garde. At any given time, his studio contains a continuum of works-in-progress ranging from public Art, paintings, homemade instruments, recordings, publishing projects, ongoing research and curatorial projects, and more. Utilizing a wide range of skills and strategies, Kouri reminds us to stay curious and make time for play, rest, and introspection, enabling us more bandwidth for personal and communal grounding, awareness, and empowerment.
